3 Advanced Search Techniques for Writing In-Depth Articles
For business people and professionals, writing an in-depth article is a great way to be seen as an authority on your subject. But how do you go about finding new and important information? Instead of the same top ten search results, there is a better way to get more relevant data. When I was a kid and had to do a report for class, I was always amazed how so many of the students came up with the same basic information. Years later, I realized it was because our parents had all bought us the same encyclopedias. The same goes today. Most people will just do a basic Google search and look for links on the first page. Unfortuna...

The effect of soaking or steaming timothy hay on voluntary intake and digestibility by Thoroughbreds
Three mature Thoroughbred geldings were used in a 3x3 Latin square trial to compare the intake and digestibility of dry timothy hay (DRY) to the same hay that was either soaked (SOAKED) or steamed (STEAMED) in a hay steamer (HAYGAIN North America, Union City, TN). Each period lasted four weeks. The voluntary intake (kg/day), rate of intake (grams consumed/minute), chewing rate (number of chews/100 g) and apparent digestibility of dry, soaked and steamed mature timothy hay were investigated. The STEAMED hay was placed in a HAYGAIN HG-600 half-bale hay steamer and allowed to reach a temperature of 170◦C. SOAKED hay was sub...

Everybody lies: how Google search reveals our darkest secrets
What can we learn about ourselves from the things we ask online? US data scientist Seth Stephens ‑Davidowitz analysed anonymous Google search results, uncovering disturbing truths about our desires, beliefs and prejudicesEverybody lies. People lie about how many drinks they had on the way home. They lie about how often they go to the gym, how much those new shoes cost, whether they read that book. They call in sick when they ’re not. They say they’ll be in touch when they won’t. They say it’s not about you when it is. They say they love you when they don’t. They say they’re happy while in the dumps. They say ...

She was dead: How shame almost ruined a physician ’s life
Dear friends — especially my colleagues, I recently failed a class (I have been working on a PhD in psychology) and found myself immobilized and disengaged from life, personal happiness and joy. I actually didn’t even tell my husband, who is my true confidant of my feeling and thoughts, until the following d ay. I found myself […]Find jobs at  Careers by KevinMD.com.  Search thousands of physician, PA, NP, and CRNA jobs now.  Learn more.

Should physicians lie when asked these questions?
Dear colleagues, I know you have seen these questions: Do you currently have any physical or mental impairment that could limit your clinical practice? Are you currently taking any medication? Have you ever been hospitalized for any reason? Have you ever been hospitalized for, or diagnosed with, a psychiatric disorder to include substance abuse? Ugh! Evaluation of the growth performance and meat quality of Mongolian lamb fed grass, hay or pellets of Inner Mongolian native grass
The objective of this study was to compare and evaluate the growth performance and meat quality of juvenile Mongolian lambs fed Inner Mongolian native grass in three forms: grass, hay, or pellets. Sixty Mongolian non-castrated male lambs in good health of the same age (6 months) and with similar body weight (28.83 ± 0.19 kg) were randomly divided into three groups that fed Inner Mongolian native grass, hay or pellets (5 lambs per pen). Fresh grass intake was higher than pellets intake, and hay intake was lower than pellets intake (both P < 0.05). The lambs in the hay group exhibited daily weight loss, while the ...

I have more hope than ever for women in medicine
Recently, I was a speaker at a conference for 200 physician moms. Most attendees were early- to mid-career. I had to laugh — I was one of the oldest doctor moms in the room. I thought to myself, where are the later-career moms? How many women are quitting medicine mid-to-late career? It is worse than […]Find jobs at  Careers by KevinMD.com.  Search thousands of physician, PA, NP, and CRNA jobs now.  Learn more.

Fighting back against Dr. Patriarchs
The COVID pandemic has revealed chasms between health care delivery system tectonic plates, revealing disparities of care and treatment of people of color and underrepresented groups. I write this from my own feminine perspective in hopes of cultural change. We have to start with us, the doctors and other health care workers. We have to […]Find jobs at  Careers by KevinMD.com.  Search thousands of physician, PA, NP, and CRNA jobs now.  Learn more.

A medical student walks out of a class. The silence that follows is what hurts most.
As a medical student, I was finally starting my clinical rotations, a time of great anticipation and celebration among medical students and their families. After two years of book learning, I was going to be called“doctor” and wear my short white doctor’s coat. I was thrilled! As we gathered in the lecture hall, and […]Find jobs at  Careers by KevinMD.com.  Search thousands of physician, PA, NP, and CRNA jobs now.  Learn more.

Calling out sexism: 10 tips for speaking out
The number of women going into medical school has risen to top the number of men admitted. Harvard has its first Black woman student body president. I am seeing more and more women sharing their experiences and uplifting other women in my physician coaching groups. “It’s like, we’re not going to take this anymore,” said […]Find jobs at  Careers by KevinMD.com.  Search thousands of physician, PA, NP, and CRNA jobs now.  Learn more.

A physician hung himself. That could have been me.
The mood hung in the air like a clenched jaw, a clenched fist, and slumped shoulders. I watched a fellow patient shuffle by the nurses ’ station with his little paper cup. You know, the ones that are an inch or two tall and wide with a slight lip; the kind you see strictly in hospitals.
